I bid by mistake or want to dispute my commitment — what should I do?

What you need to know about the binding nature of a bid and what to do in case of a mistake.

🛍️

This article is for buyers.

Summary

  • A validated bid is a firm legal commitment: it cannot be canceled.
  • In case of an obvious mistake, contact the seller and our support team — cancellation is at the seller's discretion and is never guaranteed.
  • If you win a sale without completing the purchase, you risk account suspension, forfeiture of your security deposit, and legal action.
  • If the seller withdraws from the sale, you have nothing to pay and face no penalty.

1. A bid cannot be canceled

Any validated bid is a firm legal commitment between you and the seller, comparable to signing a contract:

  • No cancellation is possible once the bid has been placed
  • No change to the amount
  • You are required to complete the purchase if you win

2. In case of an obvious mistake

What should I do if I made a mistake while bidding?
  1. Contact the seller immediately via Questions & Answers
  1. Contact our support team at sav@agorastore.fr
  1. Explain the situation in detail

Cancellation depends on the seller's discretion and is never guaranteed.

3. If you don't honor your commitment

⚠️

Winning a bid without completing the purchase can result in: account suspension, forfeiture of your security deposit, a claim for damages from the seller, and possible legal action.

4. If the seller withdraws from the sale

In certain exceptional cases (reserve price not met, item ultimately unavailable, exceptional reason on the seller's side), the seller may decline the sale after your winning bid:

  • You receive an email informing you of the cancellation
  • You have nothing to pay and are no longer bound
  • You face no penalty

Our tips

  • Always check the amount and the item description before confirming your bid.
  • If in doubt, use automatic bidding rather than entering an amount at the last moment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund if I simply change my mind?

No, changing your mind is not an obvious mistake: your commitment remains binding.

Can the seller decline the sale without a reason?

No, only certain exceptional cases allow this (reserve price not met, item unavailable). In that case, you are not penalized.
