This article is for buyers and sellers alike.
It explains what each type of address is for, where it appears, and who can see it.
Summary
- A billing address is used for your administrative and financial exchanges: it's the one shown on your invoices.
- A viewing address is shared with buyers who want to see an item before the sale ends.
- A collection address is used to hand over the item after the sale.
- The same address can serve several purposes: you simply select it in each relevant journey.
1. The different uses of your addresses
Address type | What it's for | Who sees it |
Billing | Your administrative and financial exchanges, and issuing your invoices | You and our teams |
Viewing | Letting buyers come see an item before the sale ends | Buyers interested in the listing |
Collection | Arranging the handover of the item after the sale | The buyer, after their payment |
Delivery | Indicating the destination of an item where applicable | You and our teams |
Other | Any useful place you'd like to keep in your address book | Your organization |
The collection address never appears on the published listing. It's shared with the buyer once their payment is complete. The listing does, however, show the item's general area, so buyers know how far away it is.
2. Main address and registered office
Among your saved addresses, your organization can designate:
- a main address: it's suggested by default in your journeys, saving you from searching for it every time;
- a registered office address: it's used when your business is being verified.
The two aren't necessarily the same. A company may have its registered office at an administrative address while working day-to-day from a depot: in that case, designate the depot as your main address.
3. If you're a buyer
Your addresses mainly serve two purposes:
- Your billing. The billing address entered when you signed up appears on the invoices for your purchases. Keep it up to date: an invoice isn't corrected as easily as a profile record.
- Your travel. Viewing and collection addresses don't belong to you: they're shared by the seller. It's from the collection address that you arrange to pick up your item, after payment.
4. If you're a seller
Your addresses structure your listing:
- Collection is required for every item listed for sale: you select the address where the buyer will come to pick it up.
- Viewing is optional: if you turn it on, the collection address is used by default, and you can replace it.
- Billing is used for paying out the proceeds of your sales and for your accounting documents.
If you sell from several sites, save one address per site with a clear label. You'll pick the right one in one click when creating each listing.
5. Where your addresses are used
- When creating a listing, for collection and viewing.
- When issuing your invoices.
- When verifying your business, for your registered office.
- When arranging collection between the buyer and the seller.
Any new address created during one of these journeys is automatically added to your address book and can be reused afterward.
Our tips
- Reserve the “billing” use for a genuinely administrative address.
- Check the accessibility of the site you declare for collection: hours, handling equipment, vehicle size.
- Give access details in the address complement rather than in your listing's title.
- If an address changes permanently, edit it rather than creating a near-identical second one.
Frequently asked questions
Why isn't the item's exact address shown on the listing?
To protect the seller's site and avoid unexpected visits. The listing shows the general location; the precise address is shared with the buyer after payment, or communicated as part of an arranged viewing.
Can I use the same address for viewing and collection?
Yes, that's even the most common case: the collection address is used by default when you turn on viewing.
Is my billing address visible to other users?
No. It's used for your administrative and financial documents, and isn't published on the marketplace.
What happens if I enter the wrong collection address on a listing?
As long as your listing hasn't been submitted for review, you can freely correct the address. Afterward, contact your Agorastore contact: an incorrect collection address must be fixed before the item is handed over.
What's the difference between a main address and a favorite address?
The main address identifies your organization's reference site of activity and is suggested by default in your journeys. Setting a favorite, meanwhile, applies to your billing address and moves it to the top of the list.
